As the nation gears up for the 2016 election, some high-stakes battles continue around the right to vote. Since 2010, nearly two dozen states have passed new voting restrictions. And while several states have worked to improve access to the ballot for every eligible citizen, a gridlocked Congress has left voters with fewer federal protections than they have had in the last 50 years. What types of reforms are making a measurable mark in this ongoing fight? And what role should the faith community have in these crucial efforts? Join Myrna Pérez, Deputy Director of the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center for Justice, and other experts for a candid and engaging look at the state of voting rights today. Participants in this Salon will explore modern barriers to the ballot box and discuss the types of reforms needed for the path forward.
